Non Receipt of books from INDIA TODAY BOOK CLUB

Your problem

Last year I ordered three (03) books to INDIA TODAY BOOK CLUB and accordingly sent a cheque of Rs 705.00 of UTI Bank Ltd, cheque No being 005675 dt 21 July 2007. The details of these books are :- (a) COLLECTED WRITINGS ( C-1837) – Rs 260.00 (b) IN THE AFTERNOON OF TIME ( C-10187) – Rs 220.00 (c) ABOVE AVERAGE (A-1373) - Rs 225.00 3. As per my UTI Bank " Statement of Account" , the cheque was cleared on 12 Sep 2007 and an amount of Rs 705.00 was deducted from my account. 4. However, on 27 Oct 2007, I received a consignment carrying only one book titled " Collected writings" (Code C-1837) written by R.K. Laxman. This came as a surprise to me because the packet/ consignment carrying the book was intact and had not been tampered with,in any manner. What was even more surprising was that the " Invoice cum Delivery note" sent along had " In the Afternoon of Time" (Code 10187) also mentioned in it. The book, however was not there in the consignment. 5. Keeping all this in view, I sincerely requsted the concerned authorities by mail as well as by post at least 10 times in the past months to look into this matter and do the needful so that my hardearned money could be saved from any loss. 6. I thought that it was just a clerical mistake at some level and giving them a benefit of doubt I requested them for a timely action so that the remaining two books i.e " IN THE AFTERNOON OF TIME" ( Code No C 10187) and " ABOVE AVERAGE" (Code A 1373) could be delivered to me at the earliest and so that no more of my time & effort was wasted on further correspondence in this regard. If for some reason, it was not possible to do so, I even went to the extent of requesting them to send me some other books worth the money i.e. Rs 705.00 - Rs 260.00 = Rs 445.00 . 7. However, despite all my requests and efforts they have not reacted in any positive manner.Only twice they have replied to my mails asking me to bear with them.I am now losing patience and planning to send the matter to the "Consumer Forum". 8. It is indeed very poor show and reflects very poorly on the reputation and functioning of an organisation of such stature and repute as "INDIA TODAY BOOK CLUB".
